Installation of Roof Shingles

Filed under: Better Home Improvement, Consumer Market, Real Estate — admin @ 8:07 pm

Looking for great for “how to install roof shingles” information, you have come to the exact place. It’s a tough job, but there’s no sense making it take longer than necessary. Here are three effective tips to help speed the process up.

How to Tip #1 Stand Up!

Some roofers shingle while sitting down or kneeling, but they have to keep getting up to change spots, get more shingles, get more nails and dispose of waste. You can save time and energy by specifically standing while you shingle. It may take a couple weeks for your back muscles to get stronger, but after that it is definitely easier and faster.

Close to the end of the day when you feel tired simply sit down to shingle and get some rest while still working.

Helpfult Your Nail Gun Down!

Some rookie roofers set their nail gun down between every shingle, but honestly, I don’t know how they do it. I tryhang onto the gun between shingles. Using the gauge on the bottom of the nailer, you can position the shingle and nail it with no delay. This will save a little time on every shingle you install.

How to Tip #3 Grab Them Right Once!

Make it a point to grab the shingle in the precise location you will be holding it for nailing. For me, since I’m right-handed, that would be the bottom left corner.

By grabbing it in the suitable spot, you can butt it right up against the adjacent shingle, while checking the bottom edge for alignment, all without any wasted motion.

These may seem like small things, but they can add up to a great amount of time saved on your roofing project.

Bifold Doors for Versatility and a Quality Look

Filed under: Better Home Improvement, Counseling, Real Estate — admin @ 3:37 pm

In the past the only option when one replaced their windows and did not want to use wood was silver aluminium. Therefore, we are left with a legacy of spoiled period homes which in some cases constitute a fire hazard because windows were fashioned without large enough opening sashes to escape through.

Although of low quality initially, white PVCu designs became available and have now become of excellent quality.

Home owners now have a much better choice of door and window materials and styles to select from.

The patio door market has been very big for many years because they offer an outstanding and convenient solution to let light and air in a house. They also provide an outstanding thermal barrier when shut. Patio doors have recently made way for the “Rolls Royce in this market which is now the tremendously flexible Bi fold door. Anyone thinking of buying patio doors now should first consider whether they should step-up their investment to a bifolding door.

Bifold doors can be configured to span a very wide opening or smaller spaces, behaving when closed as a glass wall to allow in increased light and to offer sweeping views over the outside scene or garden. The whole wall can be in effect removed by opening the whole doors seamlessly incorporating the room into the outside space. They are also perfect for maximizing space in restricted situations such as an opening onto a balcony in a small flat.

When fully opened the doors zig-zag compact either to the left or right or split into both sides therefore limiting their encroachment into the room or outside space. If full opening is not required the doors can configured as french style doors or even as a single opening door.

Available in many modern materials, including wood, aluminium, PVCu and aluminium clad timber, this product is available in a wide range of colours and finishes from specialist window companies. It is particularly appealing in aluminium clad timber where the choice of colour on the maintenance-free aluminium outside can complement your homes exterior while the wood’s grain and appearance can heighten any interior.

New Columbus Tower to Stand Taller than One Canada Square

Filed under: Making Money, Plugging Things, Real Estate — admin @ 10:17 am

London Mayor Boris Johnson has finally exercised his new powers to approve the construction of the Columbus Tower, the new multi-storeyed office building that is expected to be the largest building in London. It is worth noting here that the planning application for the proposed 63-storey building was denied by Tower Hamlets councillors in the first instance.

According to the mayor, this new construction is expected to add upon the recent success of the Isle of Dogs, in addition to bringing about a number of advantages for the whole city of London. The tower will be 237 meters high and will overshadow One Canada Square that is presently the largest building in the UK.

The whole project would need an investment of over £450 million for completion. However, the developers of the building will have to spend an additional £4m towards the new Crossrail project as well as another £1 million for reducing the cost of living in the area.

The mayor went on to say that the construction will match up with the impressive skyline in the Canary Wharf area and bring about economic benefits for the whole area. It is also expected to meet the costs of the ongoing Crossrail project.

The approval has been given by the mayor under his new powers that allow him to take decisions independently. The previous powers of the mayor were limited to mere communication of his refusal of a new building contract.

DIY Roofing Mistakes To Look Out For

Filed under: Better Home Improvement, Consumer Market, Real Estate — admin @ 2:37 am

Did you know? Roofing is on the top ten list of most dangerous occupations? Statistically, it is even more hazardous than being a law enforcement officer or firefighter.

Falls are allegedly the biggest danger, but doubtfully not the only one. There are hand tools and power tool hazards. You can without doubt get cuts, burns and puncture wounds. Eye injuries and back injuries are common.

You have electrical and fire dangers. If we can’t get in enough trouble on our own, Mother Nature throws her own misfortune at us in the form of wind, water, ice, heat and lightning.

It’s great to save a lot of money by fixing your own roof… But it’s not worth the risk to do so. Please think twice about getting on your roof until you’ve taken the proper safety precautions.

DIY Roofing Mistake #2 – Know Your Roofing System

Some of the risky situations above are inherent in the type of roof you choose. For example metal roofs are known for being slippery to walk on. They can be impossible if there is any moisture on them AT ALL, even a little dew.

Also, keep in mind that each system has their own slope requirements. For example, installing asphalt shingles on a roof with 1:12 slope is not solely against the building code and manufacturers’ installation instructions. It will probably leak all over the place, resulting in premature roof failure.

Some systems that can survive a marginal application fail completely at points where leaves or ice accumulate.

DIY Roofing Mistake #3 – Incorrect fastener placement.

It is particularly valuable to add your fasteners in the right locations. You may be installing thousands of them and JUST ONE in the wrong area could cost you hundreds of dollars in excessive roof repairs.

Can you imagine the problems you could have with dozens in the wrong place? That’s another way that entire roofs need to be replaced too soon. Do yourself a big favor and take the time to learn where those fasteners go.

Substitute windows and doors used to only be available in grey aluminium if you didnt want wood and the styles rarely improved the aesthetics of the buildings they adorned. The upshot of this are many esthetically ruined period homes with windows which are now a fire hazard because they openings are too narrow to escape through.

Although of low quality initially, white PVCu designs became available and have now become of outstanding quality.

As the old-fashioned designs become obsolete, home owners now have a plethora of window and door styles and materials to choose from.

The patio door market has been very big for many years because they offer an excellent and convenient solution to let light and air in a house. They also provide an excellent thermal barrier when shut. The acme of the patio door marketplace is the Bifold door which provides effective versatility and great aesthetics. Anyone thinking of buying patio doors now should first be considering whether they could increase their investment to a bifolding door.

Bifold patio doors can be organized to span a very wide opening or smaller spaces, behaving when closed as a glass wall to let in enhanced light and to allow wide views over the outside scene or garden. They can open an entire wall to allow seamless integration of external and interior areas, for example, for parties or for children to play safely inside and outside on a gorgeous day. They are also perfect for increasing space in restricted situations such as an opening onto a balcony in a small apartment.
When fully opened the doors zig-zag compact either to the left or right or split into both sides hence limiting their intrusion into the room or external space. If full opening is not required the doors can configured as french style doors or even as a single opening door.

easyOffice Provides Space in Bristol

Filed under: Making Money, Plugging Things, Real Estate — admin @ 8:55 am

Not long ago in 2008, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou (of easyJet fame) founded a company known as easyOffice. The company has its offices in London and Glasgow and is already looking forward to come up with low budget office spaces in Bristol, which would cater to small businesses.

These offices are situated at Stonebridge House on Colston Avenue, and are not only easily accessible due to their central location but also provide basic rent desk space for as low as £39 for one week. However, this does not mean that there won’t be any additional services, as the company has decided to provide as many as 205 computers spread in the five floors, in addition to private meeting spaces and world-class secretarial support.

These cheap office spaces have come as a boon for the smaller businesses that have been suffering from financial crunch since the recession. It is also noteworthy that Bristol is one of the nerve centres of small businesses and hence a deliberate was an obvious choice for the company to base their offices.

The venture has been viewed positively by the officials of easyOffice. According to the chief operating officer of easyOffice, the office spaces are not just affordable to the smaller businesses but provide them the requisite flexibility, so that they can book office spaces for a month or a week without having to make any deposit or contracts.
