It is a tradition to wear graduation caps or hat with tassels attached to it. To look presentable during the graduation ceremony, the tassel is attached to the cap. The tassels can be either of the same color as the graduation gown or a different color altogether depending on the school. Most graduates prefer wearing tassels that are made of the same color. The

Others prefer tassels made of three or more colors. In most schools, the tassels can be hired together with the complete graduation gown or one can decide to buy their own graduation attire. Some graduates prefer buying their own personalized attires because they will be able to keep the tassels as well as the gown and cap as souvenirs. The tassels play an important role during the graduation ceremony. Once the students have received their diplomas or awards, the tassels are flipped to the other side as a sign, which shows that the student has graduated. For bachelor graduates a tassel is placed on the right side and tossed on the left after the award is given.
