Tehachapi, California, is located about 2 hours North of Los Angeles and 1 hour South of Bakersfield in Kern County California. Just under 12,000 people presently call Tehachapi home. During the 1870s, Tehachapi was preceded by a colonization known as either Williamsburg or Tehichipa. “Tehachapi” (pronounced tee-hatch-a-pea) is said to stand for “sweet water and acorns” in a native a American language. In 1876, the Southern Pacific Railroad established its line through the Tehachapi Mountains. The city was organized in 1909.

Tehachapi and nearby attractions include the Tehachapi Museum, Tehachapi Loop, Mourning Cloak Ranch and Botanical Gardens, Woodward West Action Sports Camp, Wind Farms, Indian Point Ostrich Ranch, & Tomo-Kahni State Park. Tehachapi is well known for its active downtowns and quiet localities. The city also offers places of worship, sports facilities, shopping areas, social activities and picturesque mountain views.
